Building A Responsive Email List
We have all heard the common saying that "The money is in the list!". While having an email list is good, it's even better to have a responsive email list.
If it were true that the more subscribers you had, the more money you'd make, then why do you come across marketers who are puzzled about why they aren't making any money with their list, even though they have a big list?
It's because it goes beyond how many subscribers you have. What matters is if your list is opening and reading your emails. And if they are reading the emails, are they interested in what you are offering?
People still believe in big email lists. New marketers are encouraged to focus on building up big lists. They are told how they can make around $1 a month per subscriber. All they have to do is keep adding to their list.
The first big problem that new marketers face is that it takes time, effort, and in some cases money to build an email list. You can't just put up an opt-in form on your site or create a landing page and expect a surge of new subscribers.
The next hurdle is that once you get a subscriber, you have to interact with them. You want them to read your messages. You want them to become customers. You want a responsive email list.
Now, a list can be profitable. You just have to make sure that you create a connection with your subscriber. Here's what I mean:
1. Build a Targeted, Responsive List
The best way to get subscribers that are interested in what you sell and who are interested in reading about your market is let them know what you and your business have to offer. You want to make sure that you are attracting the right people.
The incentive you offer to get new subscribers should be a perfect lead-in to your niche or market. Your incentive is your entry into their world, and let's them know what you have to offer, and why they should take the time to read your messages.
Make no mistake - your subscribers are on your list of one reason - to get something they want. Sure you want subscribers to make money, but they want to be on your list for their own reasons.
Don't lose sight of the fact that no one needs another email in their inbox. They choose who they want to hear from. Treat them with respect and you will be on your way to a responsive email list.
Building a list of cat owners, people who like rose gardening or people who want to learn how to cook French food aren’t good candidates for your list. Your subscribers need to all be interested in what you’re selling. Period.
The point is, use whatever means you want to get them on your list – but make sure they’re equally as excited to read your newsletter as they are to get your freebie.
2. Build Relationships
As mentioned, the first step in building a responsive email list is to make sure you’re only attracting targeted subscribers who want to join your list.
The second step is to build relationships with your subscribers. As they begin to know, like and trust you, they’ll start buying more and more from you.
Here’s how to build those good relationships:
Email Often: Think about your personal relationships – how often do you talk to your best friends? Chances are, the people you know, like and trust the most are also the ones you talk to regularly.
The best way to build up a relationship with your subscribers is to communicate regularly. If you’re only sending them emails once per month, they’re going to forget about you in between emails – and they may even forget your name and report your emails as spam.
Mix Up The Content: Your subscribers signed up to your list for what you have to offer. And you have a lot to offer. Send out different types of emails.
Some days, you can relate a story of something that happened in your life. It doesn't have to be related to your market, just you telling a personal story.
You can send offers on new products that have been released that can benefit your readers. Make sure that the offer is a good value and that they will benefit. If you promote a product just to make some money, your subscribers will leave. So be honest, and offer quality products.
You can offer tips on how to do something that they will find useful. An example in the marketing niche is an email with tips on how to do keyword research. This can be a confusing subject, and your subscribers will appreciate the info. Add links to free resources and give advice on how to use the keywords they get to advance their business.
You can send out email messages about news in your market. There may be new rules on sites that your market uses, or a new site that can help your subscribers. Or there may be new legislation that impacts your market that they should be aware of.
An easy email to write that will benefit your readers is a frequently asked questions message. Add a handful of questions that your subscribers have asked, along with the answers. This will help everyone, and is a great type of email to send.
You don't want to get into a rut and send out the same type of email each time. It makes it harder to come up with new ideas, and your readers are going to get bored. A responsive email list take some effort, but it is worth it.
Encourage Feedback And Questions: This is probably the number one way to build a responsive email list. Ask for feedback on your email messages. You can do a poll or offer a quiz.
This pays off in several ways. The first is that your subscribers will come to respect and like you for taking an interest in them. By answering questions and responding to feedback, you will form a relationship with them.
Another benefit is that if you have a product that will solve their problem or answer their question, you can point them to the sales page. A great way to add to your income.
A responsive email list is a profitable email list. You will end up with subscribers that look forward to your messages. They will read them, click on the links, become customers and repeat customers, and send you questions and feedback.
That's how you profit from and email list - by adding and giving value up front before you make that first sale. To your list building success...
