The 27 Dollar Mistake

Over the years, I have been buying and downloading a lot of information products. Once in a while, I go through my folders to see what I have, and it’s really eye opening. I have discovered a lot of files that I forgot I had.

Then there are the info products that I can access from a membership site. A lot of these come with some bonuses as well.

Once I buy a product, I will either download it right away, or I will set up access to the members area. I will spend some time going over what I bought, and go on with my day.

What happens is that sometimes, in spite of my best intentions, I don’t complete all of the training and/or I don’t check out the bonuses.

This brings up something that happened  a few days ago that reminded me that I should make a point of knowing what I had access to, and use these resources.

About a month ago, I purchased some PLR from Kevin Fahey. It was a good deal, and it came with some free bonus training, delivered from a membership site. It also put me on Kevin’s email list.

I have been interested in this PLR for a few months, but what stopped me was that there wasn’t a PayPal option. I did give in, but in a recent email, he mentioned that he had 5 products that were available where you could use PayPal as a payment option.

Out of the 5 products, one caught my eye. It was an affiliate marketing training that promised to show how to get 5 times the results from affiliate promotions in about 2 hours a day. It was only $27, so I immediately purchased.

Of course, after payment, I was presented with a couple of one time offers. In one of the offers, one that I already purchased in the past, there was a list of bonuses, and one of them was the course I just purchased!

I logged in to the PLR members area, and sure enough, I already had access to the course I just bought!

I didn’t get mad. I didn’t ask for a refund. Instead…

I decided that if I paid for something I already had, it was my fault for not knowing better. And it was a reminder that I need to be aware of the assets and training that I already have.

Because of this experience, I am on high alert to make sure this doesn’t happen again. In fact…

The next day, I opened an email from Kam Jennings, the owner of the Epic Conversions Insiders Club that I am a member of. He released a new product that contained the first 100 episodes of his podcast, and it came with PLR rights.

I was interested, and the price was good, but I hesitated. The reason why is that one of the benefits of being a member of his site is that you get a new product every month. I logged in, and sure enough, there was a link to download the product as part of my membership.

I did not make the same mistake this time.

The very next day, I opened my inbox and read an email from Ben Settle. He was promoting an affiliate offer for a Gene Schwartz package that came with an audio, some ads, and a couple of bonuses. Remembering what happened earlier, I dug into my files, and guess what? I had already purchased this package a few months ago.

The question is: was the $27 wasted, or did it stop me from making the same mistake again?

Does not matter…

I took the time to examine my hard drive and catalog every course, download, video, and membership site that I had. And I made a plan to set aside time every day to learn from what I already own.

There’s a lesson here that maybe you can use as well. Make a list of what you have access to. If you haven’t gone through it yet, make a plan to do so. You may end up more educated and you won’t make the same mistake I made by paying for something I already had.
