When Is It A Good Idea To Consider Outsourcing?

Is Outsourcing Right For You?

Sometimes it feels like you have so much to do, and no time to do it. If you're a one person business, it all falls on you to get stuff done. You could consider outsourcing.

Outsourcing may not be something that you have ever considered. It costs money, you lose control, and if you've never done it, it can seem like too much effort to even learn about it.

As your business grows and your list of tasks keeps getting bigger, you may benefit from at least taking a look at the benefits that outsourcing can offer you.

Here’s why…

Outsourcing Saves Time

When you think about it, aren't there a lot of things that need to get done kind of tedious and repetitive? Or things that you need to accomplish, but that you aren't good at, so you have to take the time to learn how to do it? Like making an ebook cover?

Keep in mind that your time has value. Take your monthly income and divide it into the hours you work to come up with your hourly rate. That's how much you make for each hour you work.

Do you want to spend your time on low value tasks when you can get someone else to do them for less than your hourly rate?

Let me give you an example…

Example: You need to install a new blog along with a theme and all of the plugins. If you're good, you may be able to do it in an hour. Or you could hire someone to do it for you for $20. If you make more than $20 an hour, outsourcing makes more sense.

The time you save when you use outsourcing can be spent on the activities that only you can do and that bring in the income. You can spend more time on marketing, content creation, and creating new products.

Here are more examples…

Consider this…

Let's say you pay someone $20 to set up your blog. The hour you saved can be used to write a small report that you can sell for the $20 you paid to have your blog set up. Not only have you made back the cost of the blog, but you can sell the report over and over again. So that hour you saved made you many times the $20 you would have saved if you did the blog setup yourself.

Here’s another example…

Example #2: Let's say you're not comfortable creating a product, but you have a great idea that you want to have put together into a report that you can sell for $27. Outsourcing the project ends up costing you $500.

That doesn't look so good at first. But step back and think about it for awhile. Your $500 provided you with a professional report that has all of the elements that you wanted included. A product that you can confidently sell for $27.

When you do the math, you have to sell around 20 copies to break even. After that, it's all profit. The time you saved went into creating the sales page and promotions that you needed to sell the product.

You can even repackage and reformat the content to keep profiting for years to come! Another way to make more money is to offer private label rights to the product. If you limit the number of licenses, you could easily get $97 for each sale.

Let me give you another example…

Example #3: Let’s say you outsource some of your advertising – maybe someone is going to set up and manage a pay per click campaign for you. If this outsourced traffic generation tactic costs you $1 per visitor and you make $1.25 per visitor, then you’re making a profit.

Even if you spend $10,000, you’ll bring in $12,500. That means you’ll pocket $2500 for every 10,000 visitors they send you – and that’s just on the front end. These customers get added to your customer list, so you can send backend offers to make hundreds more per customer!

Outsourcing removes barriers

If you ask the average Internet marketer what is keeping them from success, it's usually that they don't have enough time. Time to learn what they don't understand. It could be how to set up and use their email service provider. How to set up their blog and how to add posts and pages. How to use screen capture software.

So much to do, and so much to learn.

When you outsource, all these barriers fall to the side of the road – that’s because all you have to do is outsource whatever is holding you back.

Don't know how to setup a list? Outsource it.
Can't figure out script installations? Outsource it.
Don't know how to write SEO articles that really work? Outsource it.
Don’t know how to land good affiliates? Outsource it.
Can’t design a website to save your life? Outsource it.

When you're just starting out, I realize that you don't have the money to use outsourcing. You have to learn things and do things.

To get started with outsourcing, start small. When you get a little more money, you can get a few articles written. Or maybe a log created. Stuff that only costs a few bucks.

Outsourcing doesn't mean that you have others do everything. It's not a loss of control. You decide where it makes sense, both in terms of time and cost.

Sometimes it just makes sense to hand the job over to a professional who can do it faster and better than you.

It's An Investment

Those who are most reluctant to outsource think of it as an expense. It’s not – it’s an investment. You only outsource when it benefits your business.

Every time you pay someone to do a task, it should end up paying you back. As noted above, if your time is worth $50 an hour, and you have a task that takes and hour that you can pay someone $20 to do it instead, you're ahead $30.

You don't have to use outsourcing, and the point of this article wasn't to convince you to do it. Only do it if and when it makes sense for your business. You're the boss, and you get to decide on how you run your business. Here's to your success...
